news: SPOTLIGHT ON: Billy Mantani
Primary production role/s: Sound Mixer.
What is your professional background (major job positions you've held and where)?
I have been working in the sound industry for over 18 years starting in NYC. I have been freelancing during this entire time, but I have also held a role at CNN NY as an A2 and robotic camera operator for 2 years and as the Operations Manager at the NBC affiliate news station in Bend, Oregon for five years. During my freelance time in NYC, I was also a member of IATSE Local 100 and worked under the IATSE Local 1 contract regularly as well.
How and why did you start working in production?
I have always been interested in sound primarily from a young age. I went to school for music recording and production but wound up landing a job as a PA at a TV studio in NYC as my first job. I quickly realized this is where I belonged. The people and the work have always driven me to be the best that I can be. I love listening to people's stories during interviews as a Sound Mixer. I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else!
What are some of the favorite projects you’ve worked on?
"CNN Heroes," NYC Marathon, NYC NYE live 2014, "Investigation Discovery: Evil lives here," and "Disappeared."
Why should people film in Arizona?
I have worked all over the country and I can quickly tell you that the people here are some of the best you will ever work with! The talent is top-notch, and the attitude is second to none. That, along with the variety of beautiful landscapes and locations to choose from, you really can't beat it!
