events: 2019 Phoenix Film Festival

There are a LOT of great events at the Phoenix Film Festival, running now through April 14! There are, of course, film screenings happening all day every day, but there are other great events as well! Here are A FEW highlights for opening weekend:

 FRIDAY, April 5:

 "WINDOWS ON THE WORLD" screening with Edward James Olmos in attendance - 7:30 PM
 Synopsis: On the morning of September 11, 2001, Fernando and his family in Mexico watch the news in horror as the Twin Towers collapse. His father, Balthazar, is an undocumented busboy on the top floor in the Windows on the World restaurant. Three weeks pass, and there is no word from Balthazar. As the family grieves, feeling the emotional and financial toll of their absent patriarch, Fernando's distraught mother swears she sees her husband on news footage - escaping from the building ALIVE. Heroic Fernando decides to take the epic journey from Mexico to New York City to find his father and save his family.

SATURDAY, April 6:

KIDS DAY - 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Kids' Day gives children of all ages the chance to learn about the art of film for FREE. Younger festival-goers can grab a movie poster to color or attend a crafts and story time event. Older film fans can try their hand at acting, editing and creating their own short films. These age-appropriate stations allow kids to explore the filmmaking process from beginning to end, and every part in between!


INDUSTRY NIGHT! - 6:30 PM to Midnight
Actors, directors, producers, agents and everyone else working in the Arizona film industry gather to rub elbows and exchange business cards during this FREE event. Stop by APA's TABLE for free swag and a chance to win TWO Harkins Movie Passes!


FREE WEEKEND FILMMAKER PANELS - Saturday AND Sunday
Hosted by Festival alumni, our weekend filmmaker panel series is designed to enhance your experience at the Phoenix Film Festival by bringing together filmmakers, film lovers and industry professionals. Be a part of the conversation! There is something for everyone to learn at the Phoenix Film Festival's Weekend Filmmaker Panels! All panels take place in the Party Pavilion tent.

Saturday Panels:

 2:30 PM - Short Films Panel - moderated by APA Member Julie Lee
 3:30 PM - Documentary Films Panel
 4:30 PM - Arizona Filmmakers Panel

Sunday Panels:

2:30 PM - Diversity in Film Panel
3:30 PM - Screenwriters Panel
4:30 PM - Directors Panel
5:30 PM - Actors Panel - moderated by APA Member Shelly Boucher
